Prince Harry seems to be in trouble over his shocking comment about Queen Camilla that left King Charles and other royals baffled.
The Duke of Sussex, who has been desperately missing his father and brother’s company since he stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and relocated to the US, might be regretting his remarks about Camilla which are resurfacing amid reports that he and Meghan Markle have reached out to cancer-stricken Kate Middleton to mend fences.
Harry, in an interview, said his stepmother was viewed as “the villain” and “needed to rehabilitate her image,” in an interview with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes in January 2023 when he was publicizing his book Spare.
The Duke’s comment has resurfaced on TikTok, where it went newly viral after being liked around 11,000 times and viewed more than 287,000 times in a couple of days.
“She was the villain. She was the third person in their marriage. She needed to rehabilitate her image,” said Harry.
Cooper then asked King Charles younger son Harry: “You and your brother both directly asked your dad not to marry Camilla?”
“Yes,” Harry replied. “We didn’t think it was necessary. We thought that it was gonna cause more harm than good and that, if he was now with his person, surely that’s enough.
“Why go that far when you don’t necessarily need to? We wanted him to be happy. And we saw how happy he was with her. So, at the time, it was, ‘OK,'” Harry added.
One reply to the TikTok clip read: “I love that he choose to protect his mothers image over his fathers. That right there said a lot!”
Cooper also went on to draw Harry’s attention to a passage in the book, in which he said that, if Camilla was happy too, she might be “less dangerous.”
Harry said the “need for her to rehabilitate her image” had “made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press.”
“And there was open willingness on both sides to trade off information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her, on the way to being Queen Consort, there was gonna be people or bodies left in the street because of that.”
According to some, Harry made unwise decision to risk his dad Kin Charles’ wrath with her remarks as it really hurt him.
Petronella Wyatt, a journalist and friend of Camilla, shared her thoughts on Harry’s comment on the UK program Good Morning Britain in January 2023, saying: “He adores Camilla, and he’ll be devastated for her more so than Camilla because Camilla will rise above it all and, you know, keep smiling and get on with the job.
“She never indulges in self-pity, but Charles adores her, and he’ll be deeply hurt,” Wyatt added. “However, although they’ve said it’s a red line, I believe that Charles will forgive Harry anything.”
