A SMALL change by WhatsApp has not gone unnoticed by users – and many are not impressed.
The popular “typing…” message at the top of chats appears to have been axed in favour of an alternative people have already said they “hate” and find “annoying”.
Instead a new chat bubble animation has popped up below the latest chat message.
People have likened the icon to the one that’s used on iPhone‘s Messages app.
“Not a fan of the new typing indicator on WhatsApp,” one user wrote on X.
“WhatsApp now has the three dots typing thing like iMessage and I Hateeeee it,” a second person commented.
“Hello @WhatsApp can we just go back to so and so is typing? This dot dot dot bouncing up and down is getting to be annoying,” a third complained.
“whatsapp was bad enough and now this stupid typing button update wtf,” another said.
The feature appears to be rolling out with more people spotting it on their phones.
Android users were first to notice it a few weeks ago.
But now iPhone owners have spotted it on their app – The Sun’s Senior Technology Reporter Millie Turner noticed the change on her iPhone this morning.
It’s not the first time the Meta-owned app has made subtle unpopular changes.
Earlier this year, the firm simply capitalised “Online” and “Typing…” which was met with anger.
So much so, the social network u-turned and said it was only “a small test”.
The Sun has contacted WhatsApp for comment on whether this latest overhaul is permanent.
However, not everyone has hated the animated speech bubble.
“WhatsApp finally removed the “typing” notification from the top and brought it downwards to where it belongs,” one user reacted.
