A POPULAR Freeview box has received a free upgrade this week that addresses a number of issues and improvements.
Sadly there aren’t any fancy new features as the box in question has been discontinued.
But makers of the Manhattan T3 / T3-R Freeview box appear to be committed to continuing support by offering this latest update.
The changes should load onto your box automatically overnight, as long as you haven’t switched the option off.
If you believe you have switched them off, you can re-active it within the System Settings.
“This update resolves app issues, improves the visibility of programme information and on-screen elements, removes the discontinued BritBox from the Home Screen, and more,” Manhattan said on its website.
Among the issues resolved is a black screen that would sometimes show up for 20-25 seconds before apps or on-demand content would successfully open from Manhattan menus.
There are some fixes for ITVX, ITV‘s free streaming service too.
This includes a solution for content that sometimes failed showing a “something went wrong” message, a bug with the parental control options, as well as the News category that appeared empty.
And Welsh language service S4C has had some issues resolved, such as signing in on the web which didn’t show a pairing code, and a fault with the pause and resume functions.
Meanwhile, the BritBox app has been removed from the home screen seeing as the service has been discontinued as a separate service and folded into ITVX.
Another glitch that’s been fixed is to do with buttons when playing recorded content – using the left button on the D-Pad to skip back, playback could unexpectedly jump back to the initial starting point.
Aside from these, there have been some improvements, including new programme icons and an enhanced background on the menus so there’s better contrast with other on-screen elements.
How to update my Manhattan TV box
You’ll need to be connected to Wi-Fi for your Manhattan box to update.
It should happen automatically overnight if you’ve left automatic updates on.
But to check and update immediately, you can press Home on your remote then go to Settings > System > Software Updates > Check for update now.
