Police issue statement after drag performer The Vivienne found dead at 32

Police have issued a statement following the death of Drag Race UK star The Vivienne.

James Lee Williams, 32, known professionally at The Vivienne, was confirmed to have died on Sunday.


Police have now released a statement on the death of the Dancing on Ice star.

It comes after the news was announced on Sunday by publicist Simon Jones, who revealed the reality show star had passed away over the weekend.

Sharing an update on Monday, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police announced officers had been called to an address near Chester at 12:22pm on Sunday.

It followed reports of a sudden death, with the statement confirming: “Police attended, investigated the circumstances of the death of the 32-year-old man and concluded there were no suspicious circumstances. A file will be prepared for the coroner,” Manchester Evening News reports.

A cause of death hasn’t been released yet been released to the public.

The news has prompted a flood of heartfelt statements from both fans and famous faces across the entertainment sphere.

Dancing on Ice judge Oti Mabuse described The Vivienne as “a beautiful human” in a social media tribute to the 2023 finalist.

She penned on Instagram: “I absolutely loved the viv. A beautiful human being, funny, kind, a trailblazer, creative and so warm.”

News of the tragedy was announced on Sunday by publicist Jones, who revealed the reality show star had passed away over the weekend.

The Vivienne found fame after winning the first UK version of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2019.

Born in North Wales, the drag artist moved to Liverpool at the age of 16.

They were given the name The Vivienne because they were known for wearing Vivienne Westwood clothing.

Also paying tribute, stars in the UK and across the pond have shared messages on their social media pages in the last 24 hours.

Their stint on Dancing on Ice saw them competing alongside EastEnders legend Patsy Palmer, who has shared: “You were so beautiful inside and out and I will never forget our experiences we shared during Dancing On Ice.

“We really loved it all didn’t we. I got to meet your beautiful family and we laughed a lot.

Meanwhile, Wicked star Ariana Grande also shared a snap of The Vivienne, along with three love hearts.

Drag Race judge Michelle Visage also honoured the late star, sharing photos of the two together.
