PlayStation Stars gives out new reward while Sony fixes broken service

Must read

You might not be able to see the latest PlayStation Stars campaigns in the PS App, but that doesn’t mean subscribers aren’t still taking part in them. A recent report shows that a surprise PlayStation Stars offline campaign reward has recently been gifted to players — even if they can’t see it right now.

PlayStation Stars crossover campaign goes ahead despite outage

In the same report that confirmed that some PlayStation Stars subscribers had lost points during the 2024 outage, we uncovered another interesting detail: PlayStation Stars campaigns still seem to be functioning as intended. That’s a surprise seeing as PlayStation Stars has been broken for over three weeks.

via PSN account data report.

As you can see from the screenshot above, a new PlayStation Stars campaign has gone live called “Ghostbusters Frozen Empire Comes Home” — a crossover campaign that was previously announced on the PlayStation Blog.

As you can see, this Ghostbusters-themed campaign went live on Thursday, June 20, 2024, and was completed that same day — something that shouldn’t have been possible given that PS Stars was unavailable at the time. The campaign reward, a collectible called “Mini-Puft Mischief,” should now be sitting in many a subscriber’s digital collections. Although, due to PS Stars being offline at the moment, you’re unlikely to see it.

This crossover campaign was far from the only new campaign added to PS Stars in June 2024 — there were many PlayStation Stars Days of Play 2024 campaigns that went unfinished due to the outage. However, this campaign was likely set to auto-register subscribers, so we could complete it without having to use the PS App.

If you’re hoping that this new campaign suggests PlayStation Stars will be fixed soon, I wouldn’t get your hopes up. More likely, it seems that only the front end of PS Stars is offline while Sony fixes some mysterious problem in the back end. Meanwhile, all previously scheduled campaigns seem set to continue running, even if subscribers can’t see them.

It’s just a shame that we can’t activate any new PS Stars campaigns and continue earning points right now. When PS Stars is fixed, make sure to use our PlayStation Stars guide to contact PlayStation Support if you find this new collectible mysteriously missing. Let us know down in the comments what you make of this latest wrinkle in the PS Stars outage drama.
