Picking the right Galaxy Ring size for the correct finger

Must read

Samsung has never before released a smart ring. The Galaxy Ring is the company’s first, which means the entire experience, from shopping to wearing the Galaxy Ring, is new for every Samsung fan. The Galaxy Ring is now available for pre-order, but how can you pick the correct size for your finger? What if you buy the wrong one? Well, Samsung developed a way for everyone to find the perfect Galaxy Ring size. Here is all you need to know, including why you may want to use one finger in particular.

When you pre-order or buy the Galaxy Ring from Samsung’s e-shop, you must specify whether or not you know your ring size. If you say you don’t, Samsung will send you a Sizing Kit for free. Only one Sizing Kit is provided per order number.

The Sizing Kit is a box containing sample Galaxy Rings in all nine sizes. These are fake rings shaped precisely like the Galaxy Ring, down to the small bumps that accommodate the health and fitness tracking sensors. They will help you find the correct ring size, from 5 to 13 — USA standard.

You’ll receive your Sizing Kit in the mail, and once you know the best size for your Galaxy Ring, you can follow the link Samsung will provide in an email or go to “My Orders” on Samsung’s e-shop to submit your Galaxy Ring size and finalize your order.

As to what happens if you know your ring size, well, you’re still probably better off ordering the free Sizing Kit and making sure you get the right measurement. Here is why.

Samsung recommends wearing the Galaxy Ring on the index finger

Most people who know their ring size do so for the ring finger. However, as you can see in the official instructions below, Samsung recommends wearing the Galaxy Ring on your index finger “for optimal performance and accuracy.” And for many people, that’s a good enough reason to order the Sizing Kit.

Conversely, Samsung’s official instruction video for the Sizing Kit says you can use these fake rings on any finger to find your size.

All that being said, it’s not very clear if there are any health tracking accuracy differences when wearing the Galaxy Ring on different fingers. Regardless, you may still want to wear the Galaxy Ring on the index finger for the optimal experience when using Gestures, which let you capture photos with your phone or dismiss alarms by pinching your fingers.

In addition, Samsung recommends using the Sizing Kit because the Galaxy Ring’s interior is not perfectly round but has small protrusions that may make its measurements slightly different from regular rings on the US standard.

So, no matter how you look at it, you will most likely want to order the Sizing Kit in most situations — perhaps unless you will eventually order another Ring in the future and you’ve already used the Sizing Kit and know your perfect size.

Samsung estimates that the Sizing Kit has a $9.99 value, but as far as we can tell, these kits are not available for purchase separately and probably never will be. They’re only delivered optionally and for free with new Galaxy Ring orders.

As for the Galaxy Ring itself, it is now available for pre-order in Titanium Gold, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Black for $399.
