Phillip Schofield suffers ‘heartbreaking’ loss as he announces mother’s death with moving tribute

Phillip Schofield shared the sad news his mother Pat had died by sharing a heartfelt tribute.

The 62-year-old posted on his Instagram Story to announce the news, where he shared several photographs of his “peaceful, beautiful and dignified” mum.

The first post read: “Today, at 3pm and after a heartbreaking weekend my magnificent mum decided it was time to go to her beloved Brian.

“Over three days, we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that needed to be said.

“She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified. I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mum.”

He added: “I love you mum, forever,” along with a heartbroken emoji.

Schofield went on to thank the NHS for taking care of his mother, writing: Our eternal thanks to the paramedics, Treliske A&E and Critical Care team who have been, in the past and this weekend, my mum’s and our angels. Your love and care has been our saviour.”

He shared a series of photos of Pat alongside the post. Last year, it was announced Pat had been hospitalised after falling seriously ill.

Not long after his ITV exit, Schofield returned to Pat’s Cornwall home to be with her.

The sad news comes shortly after Schofield was thrust back into the public eye as he took part in Channel 5’s Cast Away.

The broadcaster was embroiled in a scandal last year after he admitted to having had an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger ITV colleague, resulting in him leaving the channel and stepping away from the limelight.

Following the huge public outrage that followed, the daytime TV star stepped away from the public eye but made a return to social media earlier this year.

Cast Away saw the former face of daytime TV stranded on a Madagascar island for a 10-day stint.

At one point in the programme, he told cameras: “I’ve been cast away on a desert island. It’s my chance to tell my side of my story.”

He can also be heard adding: “I know what I did was unwise, but is it enough to absolutely destroy someone?”

Discussing a return to TV, the former broadcaster also stated: “I don’t think I could have said sorry more, no one could be more sorry than me.

“I was suicidal, one more push and I am done. They sent me a cut and pasted text, this time we have to let you go. 31 years. There is so much more I could say.

“When you get something wrong and you know, I don’t know what price you are supposed to pay and whether the price you are paying is proportionate.

“There you go, that sums that up. I don’t want to do it anymore. I’ll be slammed for this, ‘Phillip Schofield’s mad rant,’ but the thing is I don’t care anymore.”

Ending the rant on a more positive note, the former presenter stated: “Anyway. I’m not bleating, I’m just getting it off my chest.

“And the reason I’m doing that is because I am loving this challenge. I am loving what I’m finding out about myself. I am loving every day.

“When I get on that boat and I leave here, I will know that I did my best and I’ve said my piece. Anyone who’s bitter about that, honestly you can f*** off, because I don’t give a sh**. I quit. Mic drop.
