Phillip Schofield is sitting alone on a beach, ranting in the firelight about his former ITV colleagues, when he declares: “This is me, having my say as I bow out.” The former host of This Morning, who will appear on Channel 5’s Cast Away this week, is on the fourth night of a ten-day stint on an island just off Madagascar — marooned with no food, no potable water and just a camera for company — when he unleashes his fury about the demise of his career.
“There are some people I won’t work for again,” he says. “When you do a programme like this … you have nothing to lose. They’ve taken pretty much everything — reputation, dignity, legacy.”
