Petrolheads urged to pick up £12k super saloon that’s faster than a BMW M3

A CAR expert has urged speed-hungry petrolheads to keep their eyes out for a “special” second-hand super saloon that packs plenty of punch.

YouTube star Jonny Brighton, of the channel CarsWithJB, recently picked the best used high-performance saloons that can be bought for bargain prices.

One of the motors on his list that really stood out was a Mercedes C63 AMG.

In the video, Jonny says the C63 AMG has “arguably the best power train of any C63 we’ve ever seen.”

He added: “It’s definitely among the best sounding and all in the W204 generation car was properly good looking in its saloon spec.”

The C63 AMG’s engine is a 6.2-litre eight-block that makes 450 bhp – taking the car to 60 mph in an eye-watering 4.4 seconds.

Jonny notes that, for a car priced under £20,000, this is very decent performance – and is considerably faster than its rivals the Audi RS4 and the BMW M3.

He concluded: “These are special, given that they were the first ground-up AMG cars you could buy as opposed to being AMG modified.”

AMG-tuned Mercs boast considerably more power than the non-AMG units they’re based on – and are generally the peak of the brands sports range.

Second-hand examples of the C63 AMG start at around £12,000 – while £20k is enough for a 2011 model with 60,000 miles on the odometer.

This comes as a rare fast Ford from the 1990s was recently listed for sale at a bargain price – with the seller even suggesting it may go up in value in the coming years.
