Persimmon sells more homes as mortgage rate cuts tempt buyers

Persimmon, one of Britain’s largest housebuilders, is selling far more houses now than it was last summer as cheaper mortgage rates tempt would-be buyers off the sidelines.

The developer had previously said it would build between 10,000 and 10,500 homes in 2024. Given the “strong pick up” in consumer confidence it has seen in recent weeks, Persimmon expects this year’s output to be at the top of that range.

Dean Finch, chief executive, said the company would likely build even more in 2025, partly in response to the “ambitious” plans set out by the new Labour government.
