A school pastor has been killed by a shark in northern Australia, the first such fatal attack in the country in 12 months.
Luke Walford, 40, died on Saturday evening, soon after the attack that happened while he fished with family off Humpy Island, 400 miles north of Brisbane.
The shark was apparently lured by the spear fisherman’s catch, killing him in front of his family at the weekend. Walford suffered severe injuries to his neck and died soon after. The high school chaplain was remembered by friends online as a “gentle soul” who would be “sorely missed”.
