Paedophile teacher Rebecca Joynes spends last day of freedom shopping

Must read

Paedophile teacher Rebecca Joynes has been spotted spending her last day of freedom shopping at a retail park, ahead of being sentenced tomorrow for sex crimes against teenage boys.

The disgraced maths teacher was convicted in April of sexual activity with children after she slept with with one pupil before falling pregnant by a second.

The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were 15 and 16 at the time.

Joynes, 30, was seen today wearing a baseball cap and a hoodie as she visited a retail park in Chester today ahead of returning to court tomorrow.

A jury previously found her guilty of six charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child, including two while being a person in a position of trust.

Judge Kate Cornell warned, when adjourning for sentencing on May 17, that Joynes should expect to be jailed.

The judge said: ‘There’s a baby in this case who has done nothing wrong and is entirely innocent of all wrongdoing, and you will obviously want to see her before the sentence is passed, I do understand that.

‘But you must be under no illusion what’s going to happen on the 4th of July.’

Joynes’s trial at Manchester Crown Court heard that Joyce also allowed a third boy to visit her home twice, although no sexual activity took place.

The teacher was suspended in October 2021 after Childline received a report that she had had sex with a 15-year-old pupil after buying him a £345 Gucci belt and driving him to her home.

While on bail for having sex with the pupil, she then became pregnant by one of his classmates, whom she slept with around 30 times.

It was finally exposed after she confessed to the second teenager – to whom she wrote a love letter saying ‘Every inch of you is perfect’ – that she was pregnant with his child.

Joynes, whose parents run a successful tea-room in an upmarket part of the Wirral, had moved away following a messy break-up to start her ‘dream job’ at a school in a deprived area of Greater Manchester.

She was bombarded with comments from boys in her Year 11 maths class about how ‘sexy’ she was and earned the nickname ‘Bunda Becky’, a slang reference to her bottom, jurors were told.

Joynes, who had attended court with a pink baby bonnet tucked into her outfit, broke down in tears when the guilty verdicts were announced.

It was then revealed she spent five months in custody after the second boy spoke to police.

She was only released on stringent bail conditions due to the ‘intractable’ problem of her daughter’s impending birth.

The baby was taken away from her within 24 hours of being born earlier this year following an emergency court hearing.

Joynes – who was bailed – left the courtroom in tears with her father’s arms around her.

She had insisted during the trial that Boy A was lying about having sex and claimed she had not slept with Boy B until July 2022 – by which time he had left school and she had been sacked.

A relative of one of the boys, who did not wish to be identified, said after she was convicted on all six counts: ‘It’s the right verdict.’

Jane Wilson, senior crown prosecutor for CPS North West, said after the guilty verdicts: ‘Rebecca Joynes is a sexual predator.

‘Joynes was entrusted with the responsibility of teaching and safeguarding children. She abused her position to groom and ultimately sexually exploit schoolboys. Her behaviour has had a lasting impact on them.

‘The CPS worked with Greater Manchester Police to build a strong case to put before the jury, including eyewitness testimony, phone evidence showing the messages sent by Joynes and CCTV footage.

‘I would like to thank the victims for supporting the prosecution. Joynes will now face the consequences of her actions.’
