Oasis tickets: Britons urged to ‘protect your purchase’ ahead of reunion tour – how to save your money

Experts are reminding those looking to get tickets for Oasis Live’ 25 to be cautious about any purchases they make when it comes to accommodation and commuting to next year’s gigs.

Earlier this week, hotel chains came under fire for allegedly cancelling existing bookings that fell on Oasis tour dates and raising prices for rooms by more than £1,000.

Analysis suggests that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour contributed more than £1billion to the UK economy with music industry experts expecting a similar boost with this latest reunion.

While the tour looks set to go, Britons are holding out for the possibility of a last-minute cancellation in case the Gallagher brothers fall back into old feuding habits.

James McCaffrey, a spokesperson at TotallyMoney, cited an often overlooked legal protection which could help concertgoers save their money once they buy Oasis tickets.

“With Oasis tickets going on sale this weekend, some might say that the feuding brothers won’t even make it to July’s world tour without another bust-up. And after all, if they decide to be part of the queue for tickets, will they be able to get their money back should tempers flare and events are cancelled?

“Whatever the outcome, if a ticket costs more than £100, you could protect your purchase with Section 75. It works all around the world, and you might even be able to claim consequential costs, such as hotels and train tickets.

“So even though you won’t be feeling supersonic, at least you won’t look back in anger when you’re left out of pocket. You’ll just need to make sure you book directly with the ticket company and use a credit card — as it’s not available to debit cards or buy now pay later.”

What is Section 75?

Under this section of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, customers who use their credit card or point-of-sale loan to purchase goods and services are protected.

This allows consumers to claim against their bank or building society if something happens which affects the purchase, including poor quality goods, services that did not come to be or a lack of reasonable care/skill.

Cancellations are also covered by Section 75 with consumers potentially getting anywhere between £100 and £30,000 back. If applicable, the credit provider may be jointly responsible with the retailer or supplier under Section 75.

Notably, customers could potentially get back full losses, including consequential expenses. However, Section 75 does not cover if the purchase was made through a third party, including online marketplaces.

When will Oasis tickets go on sale?

Fans who have already registered fir the pre-sale ticket ballot will be able to get ahead of general audiences and purchase tickets from August 30 at 7pm.

After the pre-sale is over, the rest of the country will be able to attempt to buy tickets from August 31 at 6am.
