Newcastle United have completed the £33million sale of Yankuba Minteh after agreeing to sell the Gambia international to Brighton & Hove Albion.

A deal was struck on Saturday night and Minteh completed his medical with the Seagulls on Sunday. Notably, it is believed that Brighton chiefs were left blown away by Minteh’s impressive data statistics and did not hesitate to take up the deal believing he could do a job in the Premier League and quickly handed him a five-year deal.

With the PSR health check deadline looming at St James’ Park though Toon bosses knew they had to perform outgoing business with the threat of points deductions hovering above United this summer.

A Newcastle statement read: “Yankuba Minteh has moved to fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent basis.

“The 19-year-old Gambia international joined the Magpies from Danish side OB last summer and spent the duration of the 2023-24 season on loan at Feyenoord.

Newcastle United extends its best wishes to Yankuba for the future.”

Brighton’s technical director David Weir said: “Yankuba is a young talent that has attracted a lot of interest, so we’re delighted to welcome him to the club.

“He is an exciting attacking player with incredible speed. He had a very impressive campaign with Feyenoord, gaining experience in both the Champions League and Europa League.

“Now we will give him the time and support he needs to ensure that he settles in.”

On a day in which Elliot Anderson was also sold to Nottingham Forest, this was not the start to the summer that Eddie Howe was anticipating. After signing Anderson, chief football ffficer Ross Wilson said: “We are all delighted to welcome Elliot to Nottingham Forest and pleased that he has chosen to continue to develop his talent with us in the Premier League.

“We are sure he will thrive in a Forest shirt, as other players in his age profile have done.

“As soon as the opportunity arose for him to potentially join, it was something we were all excited to make happen.”
