Nicolas Cage‘s son Weston, 33, was arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother during a mental health crisis.

The LAPD confirmed that Weston was booked on Wednesday for assault with a deadly weapon- just weeks after his mother, actress Christina Fulton, 57, was spotted with intense bruises on her face.

The 33-year-old actor was released on a $150,000 bail around 10am. The U.S. Sun reported that his father is believed to be the one who bailed him out.

‘The family knew this was going to happen but needless to say, it is a very big shock,’ a source close to the family told the outlet.

The scuffle between Weston and Fulton occurred on April 28 in the Los Angeles area, when a verbal dispute reportedly turned physical.

An ambulance was reportedly called to the home to check out Fulton, but she declined to be taken to the hospital.

Investigators say Weston was gone by the time police arrived at the scene, and law enforcement will determine if the case will be considered felony battery.

Sources allege Fulton was trying to console her son, who was dealing with some emotional issues.

She has refuted claims the two got into an argument and has asked for privacy in the matter.

She met an unknown friend there, with whom she shared a hug.

The actress previously released a statement on the interaction with her son, and said: ‘Weston and I had no argument prior to the incident.

‘On Sunday April 28, I was reached out to by several of Weston’s best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis’

‘Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience’

‘I have always supported helping my son with mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs,’ Fulton added.

This isn’t the first time the son of the National Treasure actor has been in trouble with the law, as he was arrested in 2017 got DUI and a hit-and-run.

Police said that he hit multiple parked cars, signs and mailboxes before he crashed his car into a tree.

After being taken to the hospital, he was charged with a DUI and arrested on $30,000 bail.

In 2011, he faced domestic violence charges after he had a dispute with his ex-wife Nikki Williams, according to ABC News.

Weston has been treated for mental health issues in the past.

He was hospitalized on a psychiatric hold in 2011 after a violent incident in Los Angeles.

At the time, Fulton blamed her son’s mental problems on the Oscar winner claiming, ‘Nicolas Cage has damaged and interfered and done something absolutely horrific, and I need to just go get my son,’ she told Inside Edition.

‘I am the one that raised Weston. I am the one that took care of Weston. His dad was very busy out working as an actor,’ she said.

Fulton and Cage, 60, began dating in 1988 and welcomed Weston in 1990. The couple never married and broke up within a year of Weston’s birth.

Last November, both Weston and Fulton, who has launched a successful skincare line, filed a lawsuit against Weston’s ex-wife Hila Arounian, alleging she embezzled $100,000, engaged in a smear campaign against them and requested a ‘fraudulent restraining order’ that stopped Fulton and her family from seeing Weston’s twin girls, Venice and Cyress.

Lawsuit documents obtained by Page Six read: ‘This type of character assassination is part of a disturbing pattern of behavior in which Ms. Arounian levies false, malicious allegations against people as a means of coercion and manipulation.’

Fulton also alleges her former daughter-in-law manipulated Weston into filing for a restraining order against her in 2020.

At the time of the filing neither Nicolas nor Fulton had met their twin granddaughters, who will turn four in July.

‘It is devastating not to see these kids. Nicolas and I haven’t been able to meet our two beautiful little granddaughters at all since they were born. We’re in a quiet, horrible nightmare. It’s insane, painful, hurtful, devastating.’

Weston has two older sons Lucian, nine and Sorin, seven, with ex-wife Danielle, to whom he was wed from 2013-2016.
