NI airport issues important summer travel advice for passengers

Must read

Belfast International Airport has issued important advice to passengers as they prepare for a busy period of summer travel.

Summer is the most popular time of the year for travel and a few important tips will ensure a seamless passenger experience from check in to take off.

The airport welcomed a record 1.3 million passengers in the first quarter of 2024 and passengers continue to enjoy visiting popular destinations including Tunisia, Cyprus, Malta, Turkey, Florida, Italy and Bulgaria, with significant numbers expected on a daily basis during the summer months.

Despite upcoming changes to the security process, passengers are advised that the airport rules around liquids remain the same and people should come prepared as they normally would. This means that people still need to carry liquids in 100ml containers and put them in a clear plastic bag this summer.

Due to an increased demand for travel this year, passengers are urged to book car parking in advance to guarantee a space at the airport to avoid disappointment.

Dan Owens, CEO of Belfast International Airport, said: “With work underway on our new additions to the terminal, we want to ensure passengers have an enjoyable experience before they jet off on holiday this year.

“We have recruited extra staff for the summer and are in the process of a major five-year investment programme which most recently saw the completion of a new immigration expansion area, increasing capacity by 50% and improving processing times at the border.

“If you are planning to travel this summer, we strongly advise that passengers come prepared with pre-booked parking and ready for security, making sure any liquids are within the 100 ml limit. Following this advice will make a big difference for anyone travelling through the terminal.”

The airport has created a handy five-point travel checklist to help passengers move through the terminal with ease.

Belfast International Travel Advice 2024

Remember, you can only take liquids in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100ml on the plane. Each item should be removed from hand luggage and placed in a transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of not more than one litre capacity per passenger. Click here for hand luggage information.

Before reaching security, it’s a good idea to remove your laptop, tablet, or similar electronic devices from your hand luggage to be inspected separately. Coats, boots, jackets, and belts should also be removed to help speed up the process.

  • Book Car Parking in Advance

To guarantee a parking space and get the best price book your car parking as early as possible in advance online. Passengers who arrive at the airport without having already booked parking cannot be guaranteed a space. Do not leave it to chance – book ahead.

  • Check Travel Documents and Keep Essentials Handy

Make sure your tickets and boarding pass, travel insurance, driving licence, currency and credit cards are safe but easily accessible. It’s also mindful to carry a charger for your smartphone and have your airline information ready.

Always double-check your travel documents including your passport expiration date as per country requirements and make sure you have the correct documentation ready at check-in.

Check with your airline for the latest information on your flight and arrive when your airline advises. We recommend you arrive at the Airport at least two hours before your flight departs.
