Metro says Kate released the “moving message” with a clip featuring the Prince of Wales and their children to confirm she was in a new phase of recovery from cancer. The Daily Express is among the papers to carry an image of the Princess of Wales with Prince William and their children taken from the video. And along with several other front pages, the Express features a quote from Kate in the video as its headline – “Your kindness is humbling… out of darkness can come light”. The Daily Mirror describes the film as “Kate’s message of hope”. The paper highlights a line in the “moving family video” that the princess said her focus now is to stay free of disease, and she hopes to take on public duties again. The Daily Mail carries an image from the video showing the Princess of Wales resting her head on Prince William’s shoulder. It says the heartwarming three-minute clip was “deeply personal”. The Daily Star describes the announcement as “Royal Kate’s gentle return”. Its headline reads: “Smiles better… Princess finishes chemo and talks of hope and appreciation of life”. The Times leads on Kate’s video, saying the announcement was made in a “slick” film that shows her relaxing with her family accompanied by a commentary in which she updates the nation on the state of her health. The Times also finds room to report Tuesday’s Commons vote on government plans to limit winter fuel allowance for most older people – predicting that dozens of Labour MPs are set to rebel and abstain. The Daily Telegraph front page highlights an article in the paper by Chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of the winter fuel payment vote in which she says pensioners are on course for a £1,700 boost under Labour. It says she has revealed internal estimates for state pension rises as she tries to counter a rebellion over the cut. On its lead story – the Princess of Wales’s announcement about her chemotherapy – the paper says the film shot in the Norfolk countryside is intended to illustrate the message that the princess has renewed gratitude for the “simple yet important things in life”. The Guardian leads on the winter fuel payment vote. The prime minister is staying defiant on the cut, says the paper – with Sir Keir Starmer set to restate the government’s tough economic message in a speech to the Trades Union Congress. It adds the chancellor faced down would-be rebels in a private meeting on Monday, and restated the move was necessary to help plug a £22bn gap in the public finances. The winter fuel allowance vote is also the main story in the i, with the paper reporting a suggestion that 770,000 people are set to lose the benefit. The Financial Times focuses on a call for the EU to bring in a “new industrial strategy” to stop the bloc falling behind the US and China. A report by former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi recommends relaxing competition rules and greater use of joint procurement in defence, says the paper. The FT also carries a picture of Apple chief Tim Cook at a product launch event in California for a new iPhone featuring more AI features.
