- Court documents showed the owners had no license to build itÂ
- The collapse on Thursday left four dead and 16 injuredÂ
The newly built terrace of a Majorca beach club that collapsed and tragically killed four people last week was illegally built, it was revealed.Â
The ‘chill-out terrace’ extension to the Medusa Beach Club in Playa de Palma, on the Balearic island of Majorca, was illegally built, according to court documents obtained by Ultima Hora.Â
The terrace of the two-storey building overlooking the beach, located on Cartago Street, collapsed in on itself with no warning last Thursday night, killing four people and leaving 16 injured.Â
Local media reported that investigators are sending their reports to judicial authorities, as well as homicide cops in Spain‘s National Police Corps, with the aim of arresting and criminally charging the owners of the club on reckless homicide and endangerment charges.Â
The report comes after it was reported that the club’s owners unveiled the extension just days before the collapse.Â
A photo of the renovation was posted last Wednesday to Instagram with the caption: ‘Totally different, New rooftop.’Â

Abdoulaye Diop was a nightclub bouncer for Black Magic, a club just a three-minute walk away from Medusa. He sadly passed away in the collapseÂ
The snap, along with all other pictures, was taken down from the club’s Instagram page following the collapse and replaced with a single statement that read in Spanish, English and German:Â
‘We are in a state of shock. From Medusa Beach we want to express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. We will do everything possible and collaborate with the authorities to understand what happened.
‘We would like to deeply thank the emergency teams for their quick action.’Â
The bar is understood to be popular with British and German tourists, although details on the identities of those affected remain scarce. The Foreign Office said on Thursday there are no reports that British nationals were involved in the incident.
A spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of an incident in Palma, and there are currently no reports of British nationals having been involved. We remain in contact with the Spanish authorities.’
