On Friday, when the new models launched in India, Apple clocked up to 25% higher sales of the iPhone 16 models compared with that of the iPhone 15 last year, with quick commerce platforms also getting into the act.
Customers lined up in droves at the two flagship Apple stores in Delhi and Mumbai, with retailers reporting a higher-than-expected demand for the pricier Pro models. Store officials said around 400-500 people queued up outside the Mumbai store despite heavy rains. In Delhi, the crowd was 200-300-strong by the time the store opened at 8 am. The queues continued till evening. In an unprecedented move, quick-commerce platforms like Blinkit and BB Now have teamed up with Apple retailers like Unicorn to deliver the iPhone 16 directly to customers’ doors within minutes of placing an order, marking a shift in how high-end tech products are being delivered.
