Fortnite and Epic Games have revealed, following an unfortunate leak, that Godzilla will be appearing in the upcoming Season. The current event has already brought Snoop Dogg and Ice Spice to the island, as well as a returning Eminem. The new trailer showcases a theme focused on Japanese folklore, history, and popular culture, making the King of the Monsters a natural if not required guest. His design is specifically based on his appearance in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, featuring the noteworthy pink glow. The chapter, named 鬼 HUNTERS, will be released the morning of Dec. 1, 2024.
The Release Follows Godzilla’s 70th Anniversary
The original Gojira was released in Nov. 1954, which introduced audiences in Japan to the now iconic kaiju. 2024 marks 70 years since and Toho, the owners of Godzilla, have made sure to properly celebrate. They’ve released a plethora of merchandise in honor of the Big G on their website. Several of the films have returned to theaters, including the Oscar-winning Godzilla: Minus One. Both Japanese and American films have been popping off at the box office, giving Godzilla cultural relevance he hasn’t had in quite some time.
Godzilla is now one of the most well known pop culture icons of all-time. His appearance in the game features not just a world boss, but also a playable skin. There is no visual of the skin at time of writing, so it remains to be seen how the titanic kaiju will fit in the Fortnite model. To maintain balance the game requires all skins to share the same hit box, so prior additions like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Peter Griffin from Family Guy required aging up and slimming respectively to match the other characters.

鬼 HUNTERS is bringing a plethora of new items, weapons, and bosses to the island. Demons, samurai, and spirits will feature heavily in the aesthetics of the area. Shogun X and Night Rose appear as Medallion-holding bosses that can be killed for a passive buff. The Battle Pass for the new season will cost the usual 1,000 V-Bucks and features a variety of Japanese-inspired characters as well as Baymax from Disney‘s Big Hero 6. In Jan. 2025 the Godzilla Evolved Outfit will be available. The Season will continue for the next few months and end on Feb. 21, 2025.
