New Fire TV Stick rival arrives in UK with one vital feature Amazon won’t match

Must read

Amazon’s Fire TV Stick range might be some of the most popular streaming devices on the planet but they have now got more competition to fend off. Google has released its latest way of watching the big screen and it comes with one upgrade that Amazon won’t match out of the box.

The new Google TV Streamer, which was confirmed last month, offers a simple way to watch content from platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+ and Prime Video but it also ships with a neat remote that packs an in-built alarm inside. That means if it slips down the side of the sofa you can quickly find it again.

Amazon does offer its Voice remote Pro which also belts out a loud noise should you lose it but that smart little accessory costs an extra £34.99 to own.

There are plenty more smart features included on this Google device such as access to over 800 TV channels for free and clever AI which helps to recommend things to watch.

It’s even possible to build lists for each member of the family and thanks to Google’s smart Gemini assistant users can see full summaries, reviews and season-by-season breakdowns of content right from the device.

The box is fully compatible with 4K HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for improved viewing and it can also connects to all of your smart home devices – such as bulbs, speakers, cameras and thermostats – so that everything can be controlled from one place.

Other extras include fast access to favourite apps, 32GB of internal storage and built-in Ethernet port to connect directly to your router

“Google TV Streamer is designed to give you the best entertainment and smart home experience possible,” Google explained

“It replaces Chromecast, bringing its best features to our next-generation 4K TV streaming device — but as a faster, more premium version.”

Fancy giving it a try? It’s available now at stores including Amazon and John Lewis. Express.co.uk will bring you a full review soon.
