A new urban fashion brand is set to open in Bristol next month. American brand Lids will open its very first store in the city at Cabot Circus on Friday, July 12.
The new hat brand, specialising in NBA, NFL and MLB baseball caps, snapbacks and merchandise is the last of four brands that was exclusively revealed by Bristol Live to be opening at the Broadmead shopping centre back in February, alongside Stradivarius, Sunnamusk and German Doner Kebab. All three brands have since opened.
Lids will open at the unit formerly owned by Timberland and signs have been spotted advertising that the store is “opening soon”. In 2020 Bristol Live reported that Timberland was having financial difficulties, leading to a number of store closures across the UK . Both of the Bristol stores were safe, however four years later Timberland has now closed its Cabot Circus shop.

Hammerson, the owner and developer of Cabot Circus, confirmed that the American store is set to open on July 12. It forms part of efforts to ‘evolve’ Cabot Circus into an experience which is more than just a shopping trip.
Lids, which will be located on Concorde Street, will join the current range of urban brands in fashion as Hammerson diversifies the selection of brands in Cabot Circus and Quakers Friars. This includes George White Street becoming a service sector and Quakers Friars becoming a cultural hub.
The news comes as restaurant Casa Brasil suddenly closed its doors . In May, Coal Kitchen announced its closure , citing the closure of Showcase Cinema in November as the “final straw”, whilst ‘tasting experience’ Six by Nico is set to open at Quakers Friars.
April saw the announcement of Santander wanting to open a new branch at Cabot Circus and Treetop Golf opening later this year , replacing Jungle Rumble . However, April also saw the sudden closure of Laser Clinic Bristol , reportedly due to going into administration.
German Doner Kebab opened up its store in April after being named as one of the new brands to move into the 16-year-old shopping centre. It followed Stradivarius and Sunnamusk’s opening in March.
