Throughout the morning, the infrastructure manager worked closely with train operating companies partners to restore normal service.

Paul Owen, Network Rail’s Operations Director for North West route, commented: “We are working closely with emergency services and train operating companies following a minor incident involving a freight train.

“Our priority is to always get services back up and running safely to help passengers and freight users get where they need to go. While the network through the Crewe area has been restored, we’re urging people to check the latest travel information with their train operator or National Rail Enquiries.”

Network Rail advised customers making journeys in West Midlands and the North West to check the National Rail enquiries and Avanti West Coast websites before travelling for the latest updates.

If your journey is delayed by 15 minutes or more you can claim Delay Repay compensation:  Delay Repay | Train Delay Compensation | Avanti West Coast.
