Some analysts predicted Netflix might announce a U.S. price hike alongside the third-quarter report, but that didn’t come to be.
Netflix did discuss pricing in its shareholder letter, however. The company is striving to deliver value but “also working to improve our monetization by refining our plans and pricing,” it said.
“Key is ensuring that we have a range of prices and plans to meet a variety of needs,” Netflix continued. It mentioned recent price hikes in several countries including Japan, as well as impending increases for customers in Spain and Italy.
“Consumers should expect to see subscription prices continue to rise, especially among the streaming services that have become as essential to home living rooms,” said Scott Purdy, KPMG’s U.S. media industry leader, in emailed comments.
