Sustainable aviation fuel supplier Neste is expanding its capacity in Europe following a deal with energy infrastructure provider VTTI to further develop its operations in Rotterdam.
The Finland-based company – which has SAF supply deals with several carriers, including Air France-KLM, Ryanair, Singapore Airlines and Emirates and recently launched its own book-and-claim platform for corporates to buy SAF – has commissioned terminal capacity at VTTI’s ETT terminal in Rotterdam to store and blend SAF, which it said will help expand availability of the alternative aviation fuel across Europe.
The company has an existing refinery in Rotterdam as well as one in Singapore.
The ETT terminal is located in one of Europe’s largest biggest fuel logistics hubs with access to broader infrastructure such as the Central European Pipeline System, which, according to the company, will enable a more sustainable and efficient fuel supply to customers and airports across Europe.
“Neste is fully committed to supporting the aviation industry in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainable aviation fuel is a key lever to achieve this,” said Alexander Kueper, vice president, renewable aviation business at Neste.
“This expansion of our supply capabilities enables our customers to accelerate SAF usage at European airports and lays a strong foundation for fulfilling the requirements of the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, mandating the supply of a minimum share of SAF to European airports from 2025 onwards,” he added.
