NES Zelda overworld has been recreated in Quest Master

Must read

On May 29, 2024, Apogee Entertainment launched Quest Master via Early Access on Steam, giving Nintendo fans a way to live out their ‘Zelda Maker’ fantasies. While the final product is still pending release on the Switch, players have eagerly embraced the game’s creative potential.

Quest Master allows users to design their own themed dungeons, complete with stunning pixel art and gameplay reminiscent of classic Zelda titles. Although officially confirmed for Switch during last year’s Guerilla Collective showcase, the game remains in development under Julian Creutz, who is diligently refining it via Early Access. In an impressive feat of creativity, a fan has managed to recreate the entire overworld from the original Legend of Zelda on the NES within Quest Master. This achievement underscores the game’s potential for endless creativity.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. The official Quest Master account confirmed the recreation of various dungeons from other Zelda games, including Minish Cap, A Link to the Past, the Oracle series, Link’s Awakening, and even Ocarina of Time. Remarkably, 3D dungeons have been translated into the game’s 2D format with impressive accuracy. Currently, Quest Master restricts players to creating dungeons rather than full overworlds. However, future updates might expand these capabilities, allowing for even more ambitious projects. By the time Quest Master launches on Switch, fans might be able to recreate entire Zelda games—a thrilling prospect for any Zelda enthusiast.
