Nassef Sawiris hints at ‘something special’ as Unai Emery commits to Aston Villa

Must read

Aston Villa co-owner Nassef Sawiris indicated that ‘something special’ is being built at the club, who announced on Bank Holiday Monday that they had tied manager Unai Emery down to a new long-term contract. Emery has signed a five-year deal, a month after extending his previous agreement. He’s contracted to Villa now until 2029.

Sawiris, who alongside Wes Edens has transformed Villa on and off the field since coming to their rescue in 2018 with the financial wolves at the door, maintains lofty ambitions for Villa; having earned Champions League football and seen his club compete in the semi-finals of the Conference League last season, Sawiris has outlined how the process remains ongoing.

Emery, clearly, is an integral figure. Since leaving Villarreal to join Villa in October 2022, he has not only steered them away from relegation danger in the first instance, but he has secured European football in two consecutive seasons.

Sawiris, who has granted Emery both funds for players and also recruited personnel such as Monchi on Emery’s recommendation, hopes for more success now that the Spaniard is on board for the long haul ahead of the club’s anniversary year.

“We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core and we are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029,” Sawiris said. “As we move into our historic, 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm.”
