The singer couldn’t hold back the tears as she joked Lauren would ‘tell me off’ for crying, and explained that they were the godmothers to each other’s children.

She said: ‘Yeah she’s my bestie. She’s going to tell me off! She’s the godmother to my kids, I’m godmother to her kids. She’s wonderful, we just got back from holiday together.’

Myleene then praised her pal for her strength and using the opportunity to raise awareness.

She said: ‘It’s so Lauren to use her platform to help others. She’s in great hands, it just shows you that cancer doesn’t’ discriminate, look at King Charles, Princess Kate and now my best mate.

‘It shows what an incredible woman she is that she’s using her platform to tell people to get tested if you’ve got any niggle something is wrong.’

She went on: ‘I’ve known her 20 years and to see her still powering through at this time. She’s incredible and I’m so proud! Many more exciting years to celebrate.’

As she regained her composure, Myleene admitted seeing Lauren’s picture had reduced her to tears, saying: ‘It’s just because you see your beautiful friend’s face and it’s so close to home’.

Announcing her diagnosis, Lauren wrote: ‘Right then, some personal news… I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery.

‘I’m in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: Firstly to the medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness.

In 2022, Mylenne detailed how her friend Lauren supported her as she suffered a devastating miscarriage while live on-air during her Smooth Radio show.

The former singer spoke about how she had gone to the toilet while a song was playing but was soon left ‘traumatised’ after realising there was ‘blood everywhere’.

She immediately called her fellow DJ in-between links to listeners, admitting she ‘doesn’t know what she would have done [without her]’.

Speaking to You magazine, the Hear’Say star said: ‘I went to the loo while the music was playing and there was blood everywhere. I didn’t know what to do.

‘I had one hour left of my show. I rang Lauren and she said: “Do one link, take a breath, come out and call me.”

‘Lauren got me through. I did the next link and called her. We counted the links. I would go out, sob and come back in, take a deep breath and speak. I don’t know what I would have done [without her].’

After the news of Lauren’s diagnosis was announced on her breakfast show, presenter Deb Grant, who was sitting in for her, said: ‘I just wanted to say on behalf of everyone here at 6 Music we’re thinking of you, we hope you’ll be back with us very soon… we love you Lauren.

Grant then played the track We Can Work It Out, saying it is one of Laverne’s ‘favourites’.

Lauren has been married to television producer and DJ Graeme Fisher since 2005 after the pair hit it off while working together on a pop television show in the early 2000s.

They have two sons together – Fergus who was born in 2007, and Mack who arrived three years later – and live in London.

In 2019 she told Red magazine how she was ‘making the most of every milestone’ with sons Mack and Fergus.

She said: ‘I’m in awe of my kids. I just think they’re fantastic. I’m also mindful of how fast it all goes, so I’m drinking it in, making the most of every milestone.’
