Myleen Klass broke down in tears on Wednesday as she talked about her friend Lauren Laverne’s cancer diagnosis.
Television presenter Laverne, 46, revealed on Wednesday morning she’d been diagnosed with cancer via an Instagram post, and close friend Klass, 46, became very emotional as she addressed the news on live TV as she described Laverne as her “bestie”.
The One Show and Desert Island Discs host posted a selfie to her social media where she revealed the diagnosis, but the presenter seemed to be in good spirits as she informed fans the disease was thankfully caught early.
She penned in view of her 257,000 followers: “I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery.
“I’m in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: firstly to medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness.
“To my family and friends who have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way – I am so very grateful and love you so much. And of course thank you to my colleagues…. for their support and for giving me the time off that I need to get better.”
Urging others to ensure they have the best chance of catching any signs of the illness early, she advised: “I also want to say that if you’re avoiding a test or putting off an appointment to get yourself checked out please, please do it today.
“Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out asap is everything. It’s usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore xxx.”
While her message seemed promising, the news still came as a shock to many, including close friend and Loose Women presenter Klass.
As the lunchtime show started on Wednesday she struggled to hold back tears when she was asked about Laverne and their friendship.

“Yeah, she’s my bestie,” the singer and presenter managed before getting choked up. As she composed herself, the live audience clapped for her as her co-stars rushed to support her.
“She’s gonna tell me off,” she quipped before adding: “She is godmother to my kids, she is just amazing. I am godmother to her children – we go on holiday together.”
“She is going to tell me off!” Klass repeated, as she wiped away tears and continued: “This is so Lauren, to use her platform even in times of vulnerability to help others.
“She is only 46, so the fact that she is speaking out and saying get tested. It just shows you cancer does not discriminate. We have King Charles and Princess Catherine speaking up about this, and now my best mate.

“You get to see what an incredible woman she is, using this platform to say get tested if you have any niggling feeling or suspicion, and your loved ones as well.”
Laverne’s post saw floods of support from fans as well as friends, who rushed to the comments section to applaud her on her bravery.
Among them was BBC Sport presenter Gabby Logan, who wrote: “Sending you all the love and positive healing Lauren,” followed by a series of love heart emojis.
