A mum has been hailed a genius online after sharing an easy trick that guarantees you buy the right shoes for your kids – without having to take them shopping with you
Shopping for your kids’ shoes just got easier.
Let’s face it, taking your children shopping can be a nightmare. But, unfortunately, if they need new clothes or shoes, you have to bring them with you so they can try them on. Or do you?
One mum has come up with a brilliant and easy hack which means you can always buy your children shoes that fit them without bringing them to the shops. What’s more, you only need one item to make the trick work – a piece of string.
In a video shared on TikTok, a user named @organisedandsimplified4u demonstrated that all you need to do is take a piece of string and hold it up against your child’s foot. Measure the entire length of their foot and then cut the string to size. Then, take another piece of string and do the same thing across the widest part of the foot.
Now should have two pieces of string that perfectly measure the size of your child’s feet. Pop the string in your bag, and the next time you go shoe shopping for them, you can use the string to measure the shoes. If the string isn’t too long or too short for the shoe, then it’ll fit your child’s foot.
The trick is particularly handy when it comes to younger children, as their feet will grow quickly and they’ll rapidly change shoe sizes – so just picking up a shoe you think will fit doesn’t always work.
Commenters on the post praised the mum for her simple hack. Many also shared their own ideas, such as tracing your child’s feet onto a piece of cardboard that can be cut out and placed into shoes for the same effect.
One person said: “My mum used to save cardboard and trace the feet, write the name and age on the back and bring those shoe shopping with her instead of multiple kids.”
Another added: “Definitely doing this, it will save me a lot of tantrums at the outlets.” While a third also shared: “That’s actually really smart for my boys who hate shopping.”
