Most popular Xbox games — XDefiant drops out of top five for first time since launch

Must read

The top five of our Xbox gameplay chart are once again shuffling around amongst themselves, with Call of Duty overtaking Fortnite for the top spot, but the biggest change is Ubisoft’s free-to-play shooter XDefiant, which has dropped out of the top five of our chart for the first time since launch. XDefiant was released at the end of May and has been near the top ever since, but has this week fallen from fourth to ninth, with Rocket League just below hanging on at tenth.

Diablo IV is up by one place to 11th, and could rocket up the chart once its Vessel of Hatred expansion arrives in August. Fallout 76 has seen a sizeable jump from 20th up to 14th following its recent free update. You can read more about that in Tom’s Fallout 76: Skyline Valley preview (as well as a look at what’s coming in the future). Starfield, meanwhile, has made an even bigger jump, leaping up from 31st to 17th. This is likely due to its recent update, which added new locations, gear, and more, but unfortunately didn’t go over well with fans. Elden Ring has also moved up the chart this week, jumping from 22nd to 18th. Its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is out very soon (when we’ll no doubt see Elden Ring rocket up the top 40) and this bump in players might be due to everyone preparing for what Shadow of the Erdtree has in store, especially as, last time we checked, nearly 80% of Elden Ring Xbox players won’t be able to play the new DLC.

Fallout 4 hasn’t fared as well as Fallout 76, and has dropped from 13th to 19th, while Halo Infinite is down to 20th. Just below, we see Isonzo making its first appearance in the top 40 after joining Game Pass last week. The Callisto Protocol has returned to the top 40 (landing at 24th) for presumably the same reason, as it too recently joined the service. Lords of the Fallen, however, seems to have lost its initial Game Pass boost and has dropped almost ten places to 26th. Then we have MultiVersus, which has taken a tumble this week, dropping from 19th to 31st. Gears 5 has re-joined the top 40 at 34th, perhaps a result of the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day, while Black Ops Cold War has re-joined the chart at 37th. Lastly, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 are almost out of the top 40, with the first landing at 39th this week, and the second at 40th. Both are available with Game Pass, but Star Wars Jedi: Survivor players might be moving on to more recent additions. Hellblade 2 is, meanwhile, an excellent game but still a shorter experience — perhaps more players are finishing up with this one too.
