A woman at the DNC was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Oprah Winfrey mentioned ‘childless cat ladies’ during her speech Wednesday night.
Winfrey was endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris when she referenced J.D. Vance’s resurfaced criticism that the US was being run by ‘a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives’.
‘When a house is on fire we don’t ask about the homeowners race or religion… We just try to do the best we can to save them,’ Winfrey began. ‘And if the place happens to belong to a childless cat lady. Well we try to get that cat out too.’
The broadcast awkwardly cut to a nonplussed woman in a blue dress directly after Winfrey delivered the cat line. The woman quickly turned as if to evade the unfortunate timing.
‘I’m screaming at the DNC cutting to this random woman when Oprah made a ‘childless cat lady’ comment,’ wrote Buzzfeed‘s Spencer Althouse. ‘taking a page from Wendy Williams‘ cameraman lol.’
A woman in the crowd at the DNC was an unfortunate victim of the cameras after Oprah Winfrey brought up ‘childless cat ladies’ in her speech Wednesday night
However, social media noticed one of the broadcasts cutting to a woman by herself in the United Center seating bowl directly after Winfrey brought them up
Dale Tegman added: ‘Representation matters: justice for childless cat ladies. WE SEE YOU GRRL.’
‘She’s like “I know you ain’t looking at me”,’ wrote one other user on X at the woman’s attempt to turn away from the camera.
Another posted: ‘Omg I was thinking the same thing. And even the way the poor girl turns around’.
The woman later self-identified and managed to see the humor in the situation.
Maryland Delegate Teresa S. Woorman posted that it was her in the footage and made it clear she found the whole thing funny.
‘Damn right this childless cat lady is 100% disgusted by J.D. Vance in general and 100% behind @KamalaHarris and @GovTimWalz! Also I may be childless but I do hope that’s not a permanent condition, thanks!’ she wrote.
Woorman responded to Althouse’s post of the clip, writing: ‘I’m having a great time at the DNC.’
Vance‘s 2021 comment that blasted Harris and others ‘childless cat ladies’ went viral on social media after he was chosen as former President Trump running mate in the 2024 presidential election.
He told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson the US was run by ‘a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.’

‘Look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC – the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children,’ Donald Trump‘s newly-announced running mate continued.
‘How does it make any sense we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?’
Vance pushed back on critics of his comments after they made headlines, claiming those putting him on blast lied about what he said, and even doubled down on what he meant.
‘If you look at what the left has done, they have radically taken this out of context and, in fact, aggressively lied about what I’ve said,’ Vance told Fox News in late July.
‘What I do think is true, and this goes to the heart of what I was talking about three years ago in those comments, but it’s going to be something I continue to talk about, is that the left has increasingly become explicitly anti-child and anti-family,’ he continued.
Host Trey Gowdy pointed out to Vance that there have been many leaders without biological children from George Washington to former Republican Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
‘So I think you will agree with me that direct offspring are not necessary to be fully invested in the future of this country,’ Gowdy said.
‘Of course not, Trey. I do think that being a parent actually has a profound effect on somebody’s perspective and we should honor and respect that,’ Vance said.
JD Vance ‘s old comment on ‘childless cat ladies’ like Kamala Harris has gone viral again as the pair come under the microscope during the 2024 presidential race
‘But there are a whole host of people who don’t have children for a whole host of reasons. And they certainly are great people who can participate fully in the life of this country.’
The legendary talk show host and philanthropist Winfrey made the comments a big part of her surprise appearance at the DNC.
Winfrey was a late add to the schedule, but with her Chicago ties and previous endorsements of Democratic presidential candidates of color, her attendance should have been anticipated.
The longtime talk show host entered the United Center announcing: ‘Who said you can’t go home again!’
She said she remained a political ‘independent’ but asked independents and undecided voters to back Harris.
‘We are beyond ridiculous tweets and lies and foolery,’ she said, comments clearly aimed at Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump. ‘These are complicated times, and they require adult conversations.’
When she made the reference to Vance, she was pointing out that ‘we are not so different from our neighbors.

Despite her partisan slaps, Winfrey told the crowd that she still identified as an ‘independent.’
‘Now there’s a certain candidate that says if we just go to the polls this one time we’ll never have to do it again,’ she said. ‘You’re looking at a registered independent who is proud to vote again and again because I’m an American and that’s what Americans do.’
‘Voting is the best of America,’ she said. ‘And I have always, since I was eligible to vote, I’ve always voted my values. So that is what is needed in this election now more than ever.’
‘So I’m calling on all you independents and all you undecideds,’ Winfrey added.
She encouraged them to vote for the Democratic ticket because it stood for ‘decency and respect.’
‘But more than anything else, let us choose freedom. Why? Because that’s the best of America,’ Winfrey said. ‘We’re all Americans and together let’s all choose Kamala Harrisssss,’ she said in a sing-song voice.
