Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists he’ll forever be indebted to David Moyes if he can do his side a favour on the final day of the Premier League season – but hasn’t spoken to his former mentor.

Moyes is set to take his West Ham side to Manchester City on Sunday with the Gunners hoping the Scot can get a positive result at the Etihad. Arsenal need to beat Everton and hope City draw or lose against West Ham to secure their first Premier League title in 20 years.

Arteta and Moyes worked together during their time at Everton. But despite their close connection, the Arsenal manager has decided not to message Moyes before the Hammers take on City as he does not think it is needed.

When asked if he will be contacting Moyes, Arteta replied in his pre-match press conference: “No I don’t think I need to do that. He’s been instrumental in my career. Not just as a footballer, but as a person. If he could help us to fulfil our dream he’ll always be in my memory that’s for sure.”

Meanwhile, Moyes can also do ex-Hammers captain Declan Rice a favour. Rice left West Ham last summer after guiding them to the Europa Conference League to join Arsenal for £105m. But Moyes, who is taking charge of West Ham for the final time, is not setting out to do his former team-mate a favour.

“No,” was the Scot’s emphatic response. “Everybody here loves Declan and remembers him but we’re not doing it for Declan. We’re doing it for ourselves, do the best we can.”
