Microsoft efforts to fix issues ‘slower than anticipated’

Must read

Microsoft has said that targeted restarts to fix problems impacting customers are “progressing slower than anticipated” for the majority of affected users.

Customers have been having issues since earlier today with Microsoft services including Exchange Online, Teams and Outlook.

People have been reporting a range of problems including an inability to send emails, sites crashing and error messages appearing on screens.

In a statement on X, Microsoft said it had identified a recent change which it believes has led to the problems.

“We’ve started to revert the change and are investigating what additional actions are required to mitigate the issue,” the company added.

In a follow up statement, Microsoft said it had started to deploy a fix and that targeted restarts would be required.

“Our targeted restarts are progressing slower than anticipated for the majority of affected users,” the company said in an update this evening.

“An ETA for resolution will be provided as soon as available,” it added.

The website Down Detector, which tracks outages, recorded a surge of users reporting issues earlier today.

In July, a global IT outage involving Microsoft caused widespread disruption.

Flights were grounded, businesses impacted and broadcasters taken off-air after an update from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike led to Windows crashing on computers around the world.
