Microsoft reportedly launching another “big” Xbox exclusive for PlayStation
We’ve already seen Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, and Pentiment launch on other platforms this year, and while many fans have voiced their concerns about Microsoft’s decision to take some of its catalog to PlayStation and Nintendo, Phil Spencer has already said that other Xbox exclusives will make the jump. Many reservations players have with the move is the loss of exclusives, which is one of the biggest factors players consider when choosing which console to buy. There are also concerns that third-party games will skip the platform in the future.
Microsoft has already announced Doom: The Dark Ages for PS5, but the company is yet to reveal any of the other games being prepared for a move. There have been reports that Halo: Combat Evolved is being remastered with plans to launch it on PS5, and Microsoft is reportedly eyeing up Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, Age of Mythology Retold, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 for other consoles, but it’s all speculation until Microsoft officially reveals its plans.
With Gamescom kicking off next week, it’s time for rumors to start floating around the internet. This one seems to have a few notable leakers commenting on it, but either way, we suggest you take it with a good old pinch of salt until we see an official announcement.
As first reported by XboxEra, a conversation on Resetera led to reputable leaker Shinobi602 hinting at the possibility of Microsoft announcing another Xbox exclusive for PS5. When replying to a user’s comment about “when the next round of ported games” might be arriving, Shinobi602 said, “What are you doing next week,” later clarifying that they don’t know if multiple games are on the docket, but there will at the very least be one “big” game announced.
The comments were then shared on X, where another reputable leaker, eXsta1s replied with a GIF saying, “Feliz Cinco De Mayo.” Naturally, speculation has now turned to Forza Horizon 5 as the next Xbox exclusive to potentially make the jump across platforms.
With that in mind, however, Windows Central‘s Jez Cordon says, “My sources indicate that Forza will not be announced for PlayStation next week. Although I can’t yet confirm what game, if any, will be announced as a port next week,” before backing up Shinobi602 as a “rock solid source.”
As for some confirmed excitement planned for next week, Xbox has a massive line-up of over 50 games for Gamescom 2024. Next week should be an exciting one, indeed.
