Dr Michael Mosley’s wife Clare has thanked wellwishers for their ‘outpouring of love’ after he died on a Greek holiday island, as she described him as an ‘amazing man’ who ‘we miss so much’.

Dr Bailey issued a new tribute today on Instagram, sharing a photo of her husband – a popular TV medic and Mail columnist – who was found dead on June 7 after going missing while on holiday in Symi.

She vowed to continue the work of the popular TV medic and Mail columnist who was much loved for his health advice including on weightloss and exercise.

Dr Bailey told her 146,000 Instagram followers: ‘Thank you all for your wonderfully supportive messages. The outpouring of love from so many people has meant a huge amount to me and my family.

‘I’m going to be quiet for a while. I’m sure you will understand. But I will be back here soon.

‘I very much want to continue with the work that gave Michael and myself so much joy and such a sense of purpose.

‘Once more thank you so much for respecting my family’s privacy so kindly.

‘Michael was an amazing man. Thank you for seeing that too. We miss him so much.’

Dr Mosley was found dead by a fence at the resort of Agia Marina 260feet from a beach bar and safety, having gone missing when taking a walk at a time when temperatures were nudging 40C.

An autopsy has suggested he collapsed and died of ‘natural causes’ about two and a half hours after setting off for a walk.

Sophie Laurimore, director of The Soho Agency, which represented Dr Mosley, described him as a ‘wise, wonderful and lovely man’ when news of his death was confirmed.

She said: ‘It is with such profound sadness that we say farewell to our dear friend and client, the wise, wonderful and lovely man, Michael Mosley.

‘Michael loved what he did and found it a pleasure and a great privilege to work with his colleagues in TV, radio, publishing and at his business, The Fast 800.

‘He was immensely grateful for how receptive the public were to the ideas he had the privilege to share and to the many scientists whose work he had the honour to help popularise.

‘Our hearts are with Clare and the children. Michael was unique. The work he did was important. We will miss him dreadfully.’

Dr Bailey previously paid tribute to him as a ‘wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband’ as she described how he did an ‘incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed’.

She said earlier this month: ‘I don’t know quite where to begin with this. It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband.

‘We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days.

‘My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It’s clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you.

‘We’re taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it. He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by the extensive search team.

‘Michael was an adventurous man, it’s part of what made him so special. We are so grateful to the extraordinary people on Symi who have worked tirelessly to help find him.

‘Some of these people on the island, who hadn’t even heard of Michael, worked from dawn till dusk unasked.’

The Mail health guru’s poignant final programme was recorded before an audience at the Hay Festival just two weeks before the beloved health expert’s tragic death in Greece.

Time and again, Dr Mosley mentioned his wife Dr Clare Bailey with whom he has four children and worked closely on all his projects.

He was renowned for his revolutionary slimming plan, the 5:2 diet, which involves fasting for two days a week and eating a balanced diet the rest of the time.
