Meghan Markle’s former BFF showed how she really feels with a cryptic post on Instagram after the December 2022 release of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s documentary series on Netflix.
The Duchess of Sussex, 40, was close friends with Jessica Mulroney, 42, when Meghan lived in Canada. They were so close that Meghan called the fashion stylist on the night Prince Harry proposed.
Jessica was even tipped to become Prince Archie’s godmother shortly after he was born – before the role was given to Tiggy Pettifer, Harry and William’s former nanny.
However, it was reported the pair became distant in 2020 when Jessica was called out by lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter for comments she made regarding white privilege in a discussion about the Black Lives Matter protests.
Jessica was accused of displaying signs of “very problematic behaviour and antics” within the fashion industry.
The fashion stylist has since kept quiet about her relationship with Meghan, but broke her silence as she shared a photo on Instagram from the couple’s wedding following the release of their Netflix documentary.
The stylist shared the black and white snap of herself alongside Suits actress Abigail Spencer and other guests at the wedding reception. The same snap was shared in the Harry & Meghan documentary.
Cryptically, Jessica did not leave a caption with the Instagram share and opted to turn the comments off, too.
The move was Jessica’s first public acknowledgement of Meghan and Harry’s documentary.
In the second episode of the documentary series, footage of a video call between Jessica and Meghan featured.
The moment saw Meghan filming the setting where Harry popped the question as she said: “Oh my God Jess, it’s happening. He told me not to peek.”
It is thought the Jess that Meghan mentioned in the doc is her stylist pal. Following its release, Jessica appeared to avoid posting on social media for a while.
Jessica played a big part at Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding and even shared her pride on the big day. As she posted to Instagram, she wrote: “Proud friend. Proud mom.”
Jessica also shared a cryptic post ahead of the documentary airing as a trailer for the Netflix series dropped, which read: “Best thing I ever did was learn how to move without the crowd.”
The pair were understood to be close pals after meeting on the set of Suits where the Duchess played the role of Rachel Zane. However, following accusations made by Sasha Exeter, the pair are said to have drifted apart.
Jessica later issued a public apology and appeared to make a reference to Meghan, saying: “As I told you privately, I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre.
“It was deeply educational. I learned a lot from that. I promise to continue to learn and listen on how I can use my privilege to elevate and support black voices.”
