Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail reports that Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Setford is set to sign for Arsenal for a fee of around €900k (~£750k).

Mokbel adds that Setford’s deal at Arsenal is likely to last four years, with the option for an additional 12 months.

The youngster will reportedly earn up to €4m (£3.36m) over the course of his contract.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Setford will undergo a medical with Arsenal early this week.

David Ornstein had reported that Arsenal had an agreement for Setford’s transfer over the weekend, writing that the fee was in the region of €1m.

The goalkeeper will be Arsenal’s third summer signing, having already brought in two more goalkeepers in Lucas Nygaard and David Raya.

The eventual fee represents a compromise from Arsenal, who reportedly initially bid closer to £350,000 plus add-ons. Ajax would have been due £350,000 as a training compensation fee at the end of the coming campaign anyway.

Ajax were keen to hold onto Setford, offering him a new contract and the chance to become their second team’s starting goalkeeper. But the player was keen on the Arsenal move, and it seems he’ll now get it.

Though Setford doesn’t currently have homegrown status, he can be registered on Arsenal’s u21 list for now, before gaining homegrown status by the end of his third season.

A homegrown player is one who has been registered to an FA or FA of Wales club for three entire seasons before the end of the season during which he turns 21.

Setford is 18, so he’ll turn 21 during the 2026/27 campaign, his third season at Arsenal if all goes well.

Setford spent last season playing his club football for the Ajax u18s, and his international football for the England u18s and u19s. He stepped up to the England u20 squad this summer, though he’s yet to make an appearance for the team.

The teenager kept six clean sheets in 15 games for Ajax in 2023/24.
