Mauricio Pochettino is in the frame to take over as manager of Manchester United, according to a report.

The Argentine left his role as Chelsea manager after just a year in charge on Tuesday evening, with the club confirmed he had parted way via mutual consent.

Fans were split on the move, with some claiming he was leading the team in the right direction, while others suggested Chelsea‘s early season form was enough for a change being needed to lead the side forwards.

Though he again finds himself out of work, it’s possible that Pochettino won’t be away from the dugout for too long, and could be set to take charge of another Premier League side ahead of next season.

According to The Sun, the 52-year-old is in the frame for the top job at Manchester United ahead of next term, should current boss Erik ten Hag be relieved of his duties after the FA Cup final.

It was believed that Pochettino lost out Ten Hag in the race to take over at Old Trafford in 2022

Ten Hag, who guided United to their worst-ever Premier League finish, eighth, this season, faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford, with a decision to be made on whether he will remain in charge soon.

Minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is thought to be undecided on if he will look to make a change after investing a minority stake earlier this year, with a decision expected after Saturday’s FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City.

Pochettino was strongly linked with the job at Old Trafford before Ten Hag was appointed at the start of the 2022 season, but missed out on the role.

Former United chiefs Richard Arnold and John Murtough are said to have spoken to the former Tottenham manager about taking the role, but instead opted for Ten Hag.

Finding himself out of work again, it is understood that Pochettino would provide a cheaper option for Ratcliffe should he look to jump ship to a manager he is a big admirer of, with several fans also taking to social media on Tuesday to call for Ten Hag to be replaced by the outgoing Blues boss.

Pochettino has jumped to the front of the queue in the Sky Bet betting odds to be the next man to take the reigns at United, ahead of Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate.

Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi and Kieran McKenna are also among those who could take charge should Ratcliffe move Ten Hag on.

Cole Palmer, meanwhile, led the tributes to the outgoing Pochettino following the announcement of his exit.

Arriving for £42.5million from Manchester City in the summer, Palmer went onto score 27 goals and pick up 15 assists in his debut season under the Argentine, also breaking into the England team.

He took to Instagram in the wake of the news breaking, posting a photo of himself hugging Pochettino with the caption: ‘Gaffer, thank you for everything you have done for me & making my dreams come true. All the best.’
