Mass Effect 5 Will Retain The ‘Mature Tone Of The Original Trilogy,’ Confirms Mike Gamble – PlayStation Universe

BioWare‘s executive producer Mike Gamble has taken to X to respond to a few questions about the next instalment in the Mass Effect franchise (referred to simply as Mass Effect 5 for now), stating that it will retain the mature tone seen in the original trilogy.

Regarding tone questions: Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original Trilogy. This is all I’m gonna say for now.

Gamble previously revealed that development of Mass Effect 5 is being led by a number of BioWare veterans, and back in September 2023 it was claimed by Windows Central’s Jez Cordon that the game is set to ditch the open world setting in favour of returning to the series’ classic formula.

BioWare said back in October 2022, ahead of the series annual N7 Day celebrations in November, that the new Mass Effect game is being envisioned as a single-player title. Mass Effect 3 of course had a multiplayer component that tied into the main campaign, although it wasn’t mandatory.

Mass Effect 5 is currently in development presumably for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox formats and is without a release date.
