Martin Roberts has shared an emotional health update after his emergency operation.

The 61-year-old Homes Under the Hammer presenter has said he ‘doesn’t know how long he has left’ as he battled the effects of a heart condition. He was rushed to hospital in 2022 after experiencing chest pains and had to have an emergency operation.

Roberts had been suffering from pericardial effusion – a build up of fluid in the structure around the heart – which can compress the organ and stop it working. He was told he possibly had “maybe two or three hours to live” before the life-saving surgery.

Martin said he’s been advised to “slow down” after the hospital horror, but he admits he hasn’t been doing so and is currently renovating a pub in Wales. But in an update, he admits he “panics” whenever he feels “twinges” in his chest.

Martin said he doesn’t know “how much time” he has left to live but wants to do “as much as he can”. Martin told MailOnline: “The physical side of things took a lot longer than we thought to get around. I still get twinges and every single time I get a twinge in my chest, I panic. As anyone who has had any kind of problems with their heart would attest to it.

“It sends you into a flurry of worry because they only sort of dribble out these stories afterwards. It was like I went to see the the consultant who did the emergency operation, and I said to him, “so how long would I have survived?”

The property expert shared that had he died, he would not be able to see his two children or be able to do “all the things” he wants to do in his life either.

The former I’m A Celebrity campmate said the “psychological side” of the health scare takes “a lot longer to get over” than the “physical side”. Martin added: “I was told I need to slow down and take things easy and all that kind of stuff, and I’ve gone a completely other way.”

Martin said that’s why he’s taken on the project in Blaencwm, Wales where he’s renovating a pub. He said he wants to help local kids who are “disengaged and disadvantaged” to gain skills in construction.

He said he doesn’t know how long he’s got left and wants to do as much as he possibly can to help. The presenter also said it’s “not really about money” and more about “making a difference”.
