Marcus Rashford gets England call-up – for M&S

Must read

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford missed out on the call up for Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for the Euros this summer, much to the disappointment of fans.

But the striker did get the call up to star in the official FA England menswear collection photoshoot at Marks & Spencer.

Marcus poses alongside England footballers Connor Gallagher and Aaron Ramsdale (who did make the squad) in the new campaign. Images released this week show a new “sports casual” approach to the official England attire that players will wear at the Euros this summer.

At the last Euros campaign, Gareth Southgate’s smart three piece suit from M&S spiked a big increase in sales of waistcoats.

But the England manager has said this week in an interview with GQ that he hopes to create a more “relaxed” mood by wearing “short-sleeved knits” instead of more formal suit attire for the 2024 Euros.

M&S says the new 16-piece collection has been designed to “reflect a modern football team”. It features “elevated, versatile tailoring classics and reimagined lounge-style separates” with a “smart, contemporary aesthetic, designed with easy styling in mind”.

It marks the second year of M&S’ current three-year partnership with the FA, and a wider association that dates back to 2007, when M&S became the Official Suit Supplier to the England Senior Men’s Team.

The partnership with The FA continues to champion in-house designed collections across Men’s and Womenswear, which will be worn by the England Teams.

The full collection is now available to buy online priced from £35 to £70, and will be on sale in selected stores across the UK including at both Manchester Market Street and the Trafford Centre.

The collection “spans a neutral colour palette of black, sandy beige and soft ecru” with bomber jackets, lightweight merino knitwear, t-shirts and elasticated waist cargo trousers and tailored shorts.

Mitch Hughes, Director of Menswear said: “We’re thrilled to have collaborated with the English FA over the last 17 years and we’re proud to have developed our best collection yet.

“The ‘Limited Edition’ capsule range delivers different shapes such as bomber jackets, cargo trousers and lightweight merino knitwear. It is an elevated, contemporary smart offer for SS24, underpinned by comfort & performance that the players are proud to wear.

“We wanted to reflect the personalities of the team and after listening to the player’s feedback, they were keen to have more of a choice in the outfits they wear to mirror their personal style. The range is made up of a performance fabric available in black and neutral which is designed to be mix and match across silhouettes that enables individuality whilst maintaining an aesthetic unity.”

The marketing campaign is now live in stores featuring Marcus, Chelsea midfielder Connor Gallagher and Arsenal goalie Aaron Ramsdale wearing key styles from the collection.

Anna Braithwaite, Director of Marketing added: “Following the remarkable achievements of the Senior Men’s England team, since our last FA collection launched in 2022, it’s evident that a rejuvenated England has emerged.

“Their unwavering focus and ambition signal the dawn of a new era in football, captivating the nation with boundless excitement. As a brand, we are beyond excited to follow their progress during the upcoming Euro’s tournament and have created a campaign to reflect this positioning – championing diversity, versatility, and individuality and supporting the players on their journey.”
