Manchester United are expected to sign Camron Mpofu from Reading.
Sources say United have to navigate a thorough Premier League process before finalising a deal for the 15-year-old.
Mpofu has represented Scotland and England at international level and is set to join United’s under 16s.
The forward made his debut for Scotland Under 15s against Spain in April. Mpofu was one of only three squad inclusions from English club academies.
Silva Mexes, the son of former Cardiff and West Brom striker Rob Earnshaw, has already joined the United academy from Ipswich and Australian James Overy, 16, has also arrived.
English clubs’ recruitment at academy level is restricted as Brexit regulations prohibit them from signing overseas players under the age of 18.
EXCLUSIVE: United open to offering Fernandes new contract
United bought Alejandro Garnacho, Willy Kambwala, Alvaro Fernandez and Marc Jurado from overseas clubs in the final window in 2020 but they have since had to focus on domestic recruits.
Jack and Tyler Fletcher arrived from Manchester City last summer while Harry Amass joined from Watford. Jack Fletcher and Amass were integral as the United Under 18s won the Premier League Northern Division, the National Final and the Premier League Cup last season.
Tyler Fletcher was restricted to five appearances due to injury.
