Harry Maguire conducted double training sessions with Manchester United medical staff in Portugal before his return for pre-season training.
Maguire was among the senior players to report at United’s Carrington training complex on Monday morning after a muscle injury ended his 2023-24 season prematurely.
The injury caused the 31-year-old to miss out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championship but it is understood Maguire is likely to be fit enough to return from a two-and-a-half month absence in United’s friendly against Rosenborg next Monday.
Maguire was rushed back from a groin injury in March and played through the pain barrier in April due to United’s centre back shortage.

Maguire participated in doubles sessions at The Campus base in Portugal using a GPS tracking service that was overseen by United fitness coach Paolo Gaudino. United academy defender Will Fish also participated in the sessions.
United’s statisticians had a baseline physical profile of Maguire before his injury and he had physical targets to hit at separate stages during his rehabilitation.
Maguire played 31 times for United in a creditable campaign, scoring four goals, until he sustained an injury in training that ruled him out of their last five games.
The centre back is out of contract next summer but United have the option of an additional year.
Fish, 21, spent last season on loan at Hibernian and could be involved for United during pre-season with Lisandro Martinez not expected to figure due to his Copa America commitments with Argentina.
