Man who sent child sex abuse images to Huw Edwards identified

The man who shared indecent images of children with Huw Edwards, the former BBC presenter, received a suspended prison sentence in March this year after pleading guilty to seven offences, police have confirmed.

Alex Williams, 25, from Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, shared the images with Edwards via WhatsApp.

Scotland Yard arrested Edwards in November last year after receiving information from colleagues in South Wales Police.

An examination of a phone seized by officers revealed Edwards’ participation in a WhatsApp conversation.

Williams was subsequently charged and after appearing in court pleaded guilty to seven offences of possessing category A indecent images; possessing category B indecent images; possessing category C indecent images; distributing category A indecent images; distributing category B indecent images; distributing category C indecent images and possessing prohibited images of children.

On March 15, he was sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court to a total of 12 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.
