It will cost Manchester United up to £9million in compensation to sack manager Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup final.

Ten Hag is set to be axed by United no matter what happens in the final, which will see the Red Devils take on rivals Manchester City at Wembley. United recorded their worst Premier League finish this season and new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has decided to make a change.

According to The Guardian, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Kieran McKenna, Graham Potter and Thomas Frank are all being considered by Ratcliffe as potential replacements for the Dutchman.

However, United will have to fork out up to £9m to pay off Ten Hag, who is under contract until 2025. When quizzed on his Old Trafford future ahead of the final, Ten Hag insisted he remains optimistic about what the future holds for the club.

“I have nothing to say,” he said when asked about suggestions the final could be his last game in charge. “I’m just focusing on the job I have to do and that is first win the game on Saturday and then the project, to keep going with the project.

“There are some very good things, players coming through and on Saturday we have a big opportunity to win the next trophy. After every season you review it and we will see where we are in the project, things we have to change.

“I came here to win trophies. Saturday is the next opportunity. We earned this opportunity as a team and now we have to go for it. In the last ten years, not so many trophies in this club but we have an opportunity to win two trophies in two years.”

City beat United in their two previous meetings this season, but Ten Hag is confident his side can prevail at Wembley as they will have a “much stronger” squad to pick from. “I think we were very competitive until a VAR decision at Old Trafford,” he added.
