Ten Hag, 54, oversaw a mixed season at Old Trafford in which the team finished 8th in the Premier League.

The club also suffered an embarrassing exit from the Champions League group stages.

He did end the season on a high with the shock FA Cup win over Manchester City.

ESPN has claimed that if the Red Devils opt to part with Ten Hag, they will want a specific character trait in the new manager.

The report states that incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth wants a “yes” manager.

This would mean someone who will not challenge the recruitment department over building the squad.

The potential new manager would then have less power over the transfer process at the club.

Manchester United have already been linked with a host of managers to take over from Ten Hag.

Man United’s technical director Jason Wilcox, director of football negotiations and chief scout Steve Brown will be leading the transfer business this summer.

ESPN have also reported that Wilcox and Brown have opened talks over bringing in new players.

The reports suggest that the club’s priority is to sign strikers and centre-backs during the transfer window.

Lille’s Leny Yoro is one target but reports claim he would prefer a move to Real Madrid.

Striker Joshua Zirkzee has also been linked with the club but has interest from Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
