Man United’s dream XI next season as Branthwaite signs and Neves battle

Transfer speculation surrounding Manchester United has intensified with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite reportedly close to agreeing to a move to Old Trafford.

Uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s future as manager disappeared after the club showed their faith in the Dutchman, despite links with numerous successors after their FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

United face a crucial transfer window this summer as they look to improve upon their eighth place finish in the Premier League. Their triumph in the domestic cup salvaged the campaign as they secured European football next season, booking their place in the Europa League. Several key areas have been pinpointed by recruitment bosses in Manchester including central defence and a forward player.

Jason Wilcox has been in situ at Old Trafford as technical director since arriving from Southampton in April, while CEO Omar Berrada will take up his new position next month. However the uncertainty over Dan Ashworth’s appointment as sporting director continues after being placed on gardening leave by Newcastle United following United’s interest.

The MEN understands Branthwaite is a leading target at centre-back and the ‘first’ deadline of the window looms large. Everton could look to sell before June 30 to improve their own PSR position.

A valuation of £75million would put United off, who have PSR concerns of their own to deal with. Bremer and Edmond Tapsoba are alternative targets and, depending on departures, two central defenders could be signed.
