Man United youngster completes swift transfer after rejecting contract

Must read

Omari Forson has joined Monza after rejecting a new deal at Manchester United.

The 19-year-old, who made his first-team debut as a substitute in the 2-0 FA Cup victory over Wigan in January, made seven senior appearances during the 2023/24 season. He made his first start in the Premier League against Fulham and was a regular in the squad throughout the second-half of the campaign.

With his contract due to expire at the end of June, Forson was named in United’s retained list for next season and offered a new deal. The Manchester Evening News reported on Tuesday morning that the teenager has turned down those fresh terms with Serie A side Monza now announcing the signing of Forson, who has signed a contract until 2028.

Although he is set to join on a free transfer, United will be due compensation from Monza. His choice of destination has come as a surprise, but Forson should get regular game time next term. Monza finished 12th in Serie A, although it could have been if they didn’t end the season without a win in nine matches.

Forson moved to United from Tottenham in 2019 and progressed through the youth system before being integrated into the first-team. He appeared on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States last summer but had to wait six months before being handed his first senior appearance.

His cameo against Arsenal last month proved to be his final in a United shirt. Forson is not the only player leaving United this summer, with Raphael Varane, Brandon Williams and Anthony Martial confirmed to be departing at the end of the month. More could follow in the summer transfer window.
