Man United ‘working’ to make new transfer move as Ineos plan continues

Must read

Manchester United are looking to appoint former Chelsea man Christopher Vivell to help during the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Athletic claim that the club are ‘working’ to appoint the German on a short-term basis as they aim to be active in the current transfer window. Vivell left Chelsea just under a year ago after spending 18 months at the club as technical director, he has also previously worked for Red Bull Leipzig.

The move for Vevell comes after United confirmed the appointment of Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director. After a standoff between the club and Newcastle United, which saw Ashworth placed on gardening leave, a deal was eventually reached between the two clubs, allowing Ashworth to take up the role at Old Trafford.

The additions are part of an overhaul by part owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe since his purchase of a minority stake in the club at the end of last year. New chief executive officer Omar Berrada will start later this month after his move from Manchester City while former Southampton man Jason Wilcox has been working as technical director.

Speaking in March Ratcliffe hinted at the sort of approach United would take to the current transfer window “What I would rather do is find the next [Kylian] Mbappe, rather than spend a fortune just trying to buy success,” he told the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast. “It’s not that clever, is it, buying Mbappe, in a way?

“Anybody could figure that one out. But what’s much more challenging is to find the next Mbappe, the next [Jude] Bellingham or the next Roy Keane.”
